CARY, NC - October 13, 2008 - The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is using Signalscape’s audio forensics software to investigate the business jet crash that critically injured musician Travis Barker, California DJ Adam Goldstein, and killed four others. According to Jhan Vannatta, President of Signalscape, Inc., the NTSB’s Vehicle Recorder Division is using Signalscape’s Forensic Audio Spectral Analyzer (FASA) to extract critical information from the cockpit voice recorder. Since many small jets and planes do not have flight data recorders, investigators are forced to rely on voice and sound recordings.
According to Julie Barnes, Signalscape’s Principal Audio Engineer, the company’s Special Programs Division spent the last year developing the FASA software in order to provide state-of-the-art signal analysis and audio clarification capabilities. The new FASA system provides an extensive array of signal processing functions and visualization tools that run on a common PC platform. Barnes also said that Signalscape was currently in the process of making enhancements to aid in the investigation of such tragedies.
